ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

 

This workshop is planned to be the first one in shipping and logistics between Dokuz Eylül and Cardiff Universities in order to encourage academics from two universities for joint research and collaboration. This workshop intends to evaluate recent trends ongoing in shipping and logistics research such as multimodal transport, safety and quality in shipping, port policy, employment at sea and education in shipping and logistics. Participants from both universities will evaluate current and future trends in these subjects and discussions after each session will provide opportunities for collaboration and joint research.

 

STRUCTURE OF THE WORKSHOP

 

This workshop is planned for three days. First day will be in three sessions including multimodal transport, shipping and safety and quality issues.  On the second day, the morning session will outline current trends in employment at sea and various topics on employment at sea will be evaluated and the sessions will end with discussions. After morning session, a conference will be held at Chamber of Shipping, Izmir Branch about port policy and development issues. Guest speakers from Cardiff University will evaluate UK port policy and role of ports in logistics chain. On the third day, speakers from both Dokuz Eylül and Cardiff University will present their educational programs in logistics and shipping. Afternoon session will be devoted to a long discussion for future collaboration and research between two universities. The sessions will include several 15 minutes presentations and will end with discussions. LCD projector, computer and an ordinary overhead projector will be available for presentations.
